Phuket has lots more to offer than just glorious beaches and clean seas. It also has the fascinating mangrove forests, the inland jungles, museums, viewpoints, waterfalls, and much more.

Temples of Phuket

Phuket offers something for everybody. For the more spiritually inclined visitor the temples of Phuket are an attraction that cannot be missed. The temple at Wat Chalong is the most famous among these. It is beautifully decorated with infinite reflections from hundreds of glass pieces and pagodas. You haven’t seen Phuket is you haven’t visited this marvelous temple.

Phuket has around 50 temples and monasteries the most famous of which being the Wat Chalong. It is associated with highly revered monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, both of whom are famous for work in herbal medicine The large stupa in the centre of the temple houses a piece of bone from the Buddha, donated by a temple in Sri Lanka, and also has beautiful views across the neighboring countryside

In the centre of Phuket Town, around Thalang Road, is the old Chinese quarter. Particularly attractive is Soi Romanee, a narrow street off Thalang Road. There are also regular, free jazz performances in the street.

Waterfalls

The waterfalls in Phuket may not be the largest or the biggest which is precisely why they made for an ideal place to cool on a hot day. These waterfalls are best experience during the monsoon season.

Big Buddha

Atop the Nakkerd Hills, the Big Buddha is a towering structure that is visible from most of the south of Phuket. The Big Buddha is 45 meters high and cost 30 million baht to complete. Nakkerd Hills also offers some of the most stunning view points in Phuket and is equally a spiritual as well as a tourist destination.

Museums

The Phuket Sea Shell Museum in Rawai has a superlative display of sea shells from around the world. The owners are well-known internationally for their research work and they have over 2,000 species of sea-shells including giant clams, ancient fossils and rare golden pearls.

If, history interests you then be sure that you do not miss the Thalang National Museum on the way to the beaches. Take a trip through the history of Phuket, learn about the fascinating history behind the Heroines Monument, get a glimpse of the Sea Gypsy culture and see some interesting artifacts preserved through thousands of years.

Another museum that has not yet been widely promoted is the Tin Museum. Located on the back-roads between Phuket town and Kathu the Tin Museum lends an interesting insight and takes you on a journey to Phukets history when tin mining was the way of life.

There is also an idiosyncratic collection of artifacts in the Thavorn Hotel on Rassada Road. The museum of Thai-Chinese culture in the old Thai Hua school building on Krabi Road gives insight into this powerful sector of Thai society.

Theme parks

Phuket FantaSea is probably the ultimate nighttime cultural theme park inspired by Thailand’s rich and exotic heritage. The result is a stunning one-hundred and forty acre complex packed with a multitude of activities and entertainment ranging from a carnival village with games, spaces for shopping, a 4,000 seat theater offering a grand buffet of mouth-watering Thai and international cuisines and a breath-taking theatrical show.
