Local Transport
Phuket is a large place and for that reason you will need some form of transportation during your stay. Small and easy to maneuver, motorbikes are the best and cheapest form of transportation available. If you are a beginner please go slowly at first until you get the hang of things and remember that in Thailand drivers use the left hand side of the road. Remember also to drive VERY DEFENSIVELY because even a minor accident could potentially ruin what was up until this point a great trip! As you become more and more experienced you will discover that having your own means of transportation is an excellent way of exploring your surroundings and seeing what Phuket has to offer.
Gas
Gas can be purchased almost anywhere in Phuket. When driving and in need of a fill keep your eyes open for what looks like yellow or light brown colored alcohol bottles lined up in rows in front of various homes and businesses. These are gas and can be purchased for roughly 30 Baht each with approximately 3 giving you a full tank (about 400 KM) worth of driving.
Take Care
Although inexpensive and readily available this method of transport doesn’t come without risk!
Please Remember to ALWAYS wear your helmet! Not doing so and if stopped by Police will result in an IMMEDIATELY DUE 300 Baht fine.
Please Remember also to ALWAYS carry your licence because if stopped by Police without one you will also be facing an IMMEDIATELY DUE 500 Baht fine.
In the meantime drive safely and enjoy!
